Naomi Louise Sunderland Hosterman was born in Elkhart, Indiana, in 1903. In the 1930s, she moved to Charleston, West Virginia. Her paintings are now in museums in Charleston and Huntington, West Virginia. She also created drawings for several books. These books tell stories about the early history of Virginia (which later became West Virginia). In the 1940s, people said she was West Virginia's best artist for painting flowers and everyday objects. Naomi Hosterman passed away in 1990 in Los Alamitos, California.
