Naotake Hanyu (羽生 直剛, Hanyū Naotake, born December 22, 1979) is a famous former Japanese football player. He was known for playing as a midfielder. He played for several professional clubs in Japan, including JEF United Chiba and FC Tokyo. He also proudly represented the Japan national team.
Club Career Highlights
Naotake Hanyu started his professional football journey in 2002. He joined his hometown club, JEF United Ichihara (which later became JEF United Chiba). He quickly became an important player for the team.
He played in his very first league match on March 3, 2002. In his first professional season, he played 22 games and scored 2 goals. He often played as an attacking midfielder.
During his time with JEF United Chiba, the club won the J.League Cup twice. They lifted the trophy in 2005 and again in 2006.
In 2008, Hanyu moved to FC Tokyo. With FC Tokyo, he continued his success. The club won the J.League Cup in 2009. In 2011, FC Tokyo had a great year. They won the J2 League and the Emperor's Cup in 2011.
Later in his career, Hanyu faced some injuries. In 2013, he played for Ventforet Kofu on loan. He then returned to FC Tokyo in 2014. He finished his career back at JEF United Chiba in 2017, retiring at the end of that season.
Playing for Japan
Naotake Hanyu also had a chance to play for his country. When he was a student at the University of Tsukuba, he played for Japan in the 2001 Summer Universiade. This was a big sports event held in Beijing. Hanyu was a key player, scoring 3 goals. One of his goals was the only one in the final match, helping Japan win the tournament.
He made his debut for the senior Japan national team on August 13, 2006. This was during a qualifying match for the 2007 AFC Asian Cup. He also played in the main 2007 Asian Cup tournament. He played in five games during the competition. Japan finished 4th in the tournament. Hanyu played a total of 17 games for Japan until 2008.
