Naoto Matsuo (松尾 直人, Matsuo Naoto, born September 10, 1979) is a former Japanese football player. He played as a defender during his career.

His Football Journey
Naoto Matsuo was born in Wakayama, Japan, on September 10, 1979. After finishing high school, he started his professional football career.
Early Career and Loans
In 1998, Naoto joined Vissel Kobe, a team in the top Japanese league, J1 League. He played several games as a substitute midfielder in his first year. In 1999, he went to Argentina to play for Gimnasia y Esgrima de Jujuy on a temporary loan.
He returned to Vissel Kobe in April 1999. For a while, he did not play much. But in 2001, he started playing more often, mainly as a left side back.
In 2002, Naoto moved to Cerezo Osaka, a team in the J2 League, on another loan. He did not play any games there. By July 2002, he was back with Vissel Kobe.
Moving Between Teams
In August 2004, Naoto went on loan again, this time to Albirex Niigata. This team had just moved up to the J1 League. He played many games as a left-back in their defense.
He returned to Vissel Kobe in 2005 and played many matches as a left-back. However, he did not play much towards the end of that year. In 2006, he joined FC Tokyo. Unfortunately, he could not play any games due to an injury.
Later Career and Retirement
In 2007, Naoto Matsuo moved back to Albirex Niigata. He became a regular player as a left side back. However, his playing time became less in 2009.
In 2010, he joined Shonan Bellmare. Injuries kept him from playing many games there. In 2012, Naoto moved to FC Osaka, a team in the Regional Leagues. He played for two seasons before deciding to retire from football at the end of 2013.
