Early Life and Education

Nasrin Oryakhil was born in 1964 in the city of Kabul, which is the capital of Afghanistan. She grew up there and later chose to study medicine.

A Doctor Helping Women

Nasrin Oryakhil is a special kind of doctor called a gynecologist and obstetrician. This means she helps women with their health, especially during pregnancy and childbirth.

Since 2004, she has been the Director of the Malalai Maternity Hospital in Kabul. This hospital is very important for mothers and babies. Inside this hospital, she started the first clinic in Afghanistan to help women with a serious health problem called obstetric fistula. This condition can happen after difficult childbirth and causes severe health issues. Her clinic helps women get the surgery they need to heal.

Dr. Oryakhil also leads an organization called the Afghan Family Health Association. This group works to improve health for families in Afghanistan. She is also part of the Afghan Women's Network, which supports women's rights and roles in society. She helped create a Medical Council in Afghanistan, which sets rules for doctors. She also supported the start of the Afghan Midwives Association, which trains and supports midwives who help women give birth.

Role in Government

In 2015, Nasrin Oryakhil took on a new role in politics. She was chosen to be the Minister for Labor in Afghanistan. This meant she was in charge of things related to jobs and workers in the country. She was one of only a few women who became ministers in the government at that time. However, on November 12, 2016, the Afghan parliament decided to remove her from her position as minister.
