The Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum is a famous sports building in Uniondale, New York. It is often called Nassau Coliseum or The Coliseum. This arena first opened its doors on February 11, 1972. It became a very important place for sports and entertainment on Long Island.
For many years, the Coliseum was the home of the New York Islanders. They are a professional ice hockey team in the NHL. The arena also hosted the New York Nets basketball team from 1972 to 1977.
The Coliseum has also been a popular spot for big wrestling events. It hosted part of World Wrestling Federation's WrestleMania 2 in 1986. Other WWE shows like SummerSlam (2002), The Great American Bash (2008), and WWE Fatal 4-Way (2010) also took place here.
The Islanders planned to move to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn after the 2014-2015 season. This move left the future of the Coliseum uncertain for a while.
