What is Nasty Little Beasts About?
This book is filled with different short stories. Each story teaches a lesson in a fun, spooky way. The tales often show what happens when kids are naughty or don't listen.
The Clothes Pigs
This story is about a boy named Trueman Shuffle. His family calls him Truffle. Truffle is very lazy and never cleans up his clothes. His parents are always tired from picking up after him. When they complain, Truffle just ignores them or argues back.
His parents warn him that "clothes pigs" will come if he keeps living in a messy "pigsty". Truffle doesn't believe them. He says pigs would never be seen in their city.
One day, Truffle's mother trips over his clothes on the stairs. She breaks her leg and cries out for help. Truffle ignores her pain. He even tells her to make his dinner. When she can't, he leaves to get fish and chips.
When Truffle comes home, his father scolds him. His father's voice is so loud it travels across the city. It reaches the countryside through clotheslines. Four hungry piglets hear a high-pitched sound like "truffle." They decide to leave their farm and look for the "truffles."
