Nathan Beauregard
Nathan Beauregard (born Nathan Bogard) was an American blues singer and guitar player. He was known for his unique style of blues music. He lived from about February 1892 until May 25, 1970.
Nathan Beauregard's Early Life
Nathan Bogard was likely born in February 1892 in Benton County, Mississippi. This date is based on records from 1900. He sometimes said he was born earlier, but 1892 is the most accepted date.
Nathan was born blind. Because of this, he became a musician at a young age. He played many different kinds of songs. These included older songs from before the blues became popular. He also played dance tunes like "Spoonful" and "Pretty Bunch of Daisies."
A Musician's Journey
In the 1920s, many blues musicians started recording their music. This was a time when "race records" were popular. These were records made for African American audiences. Even though many musicians with less experience got to record, Nathan did not get this chance at first.
Years later, in the 1960s, there was a big interest in folk and blues music again. This was called the "folk and blues revival." During this time, Nathan Beauregard was "discovered" in Memphis. A person named Bill Barth helped him start playing music again.
Later Career and Legacy
Nathan Beauregard played at several music festivals. These included the 1968 Memphis Country Blues Festival. His performances were recorded on different albums. He also appeared on many compilation albums. These albums featured songs from various artists.
Nathan Beauregard passed away in Memphis on May 25, 1970. Even though he only recorded music later in his life, he left behind important blues recordings.
