Nathan Raymond Quinn Haynes (born September 7, 1979) is a former professional baseball player. He played as an outfielder in Major League Baseball (MLB). Nathan made his big league debut with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on May 28, 2007. He played all three outfield positions during his career.
Nathan Haynes' Baseball Journey
Nathan Haynes began his baseball career when he was chosen by the Oakland Athletics in the first round of the 1997 amateur draft. This is like being picked to join a special team. His mother, Karen Haynes, was a big support for him.
In 1999, Nathan was traded to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. A trade in baseball means players switch teams. He played for the Angels for a few years. After the 2003 season, he became a minor league free agent. This means he could sign with any team he wanted. He then signed with the San Francisco Giants.
Playing in the Big Leagues
Nathan played only a few games in the Giants' minor league system. He later became a free agent again and rejoined the Angels. In 2007, he finally made it to the Major Leagues with the Los Angeles Angels. He played in 40 games for them. He had a batting average of .267, which is pretty good! He also had 1 RBI (run batted in) and 1 stolen base.
In 2008, Nathan was picked up by the Tampa Bay Rays. This happened when the Rays "claimed him off waivers." It means they took over his contract from the Angels. He played for the Rays for a short time. On May 10, 2008, he was "designated for assignment." This means the team removed him from their active roster. Nathan Haynes decided to retire from baseball after the 2008 season.
