Nathan Purdee: A Star of Daytime TV
Nathan Purdee became famous for playing the character Nathan Hastings on the CBS soap opera The Young and the Restless. He played this role from 1984 to 1992. During the late 1980s, he was one of only two Black actors on the show. His presence helped open the door for more African American actors to join the cast.
Breaking Barriers on Screen
While he was also appearing on another show called Santa Barbara, Nathan Purdee was part of a very important moment in television history. He performed the first ever on-screen kiss between people of different races on American daytime TV. This was a big step forward for diversity in television.
New Roles and a Family Project
Nathan Purdee left The Young and the Restless in December 1991. He then moved to New York in January 1992 to join the ABC soap opera One Life to Live. On this show, he played the role of District Attorney Hank Gannon until 2003.
Between his time on The Young and the Restless and One Life to Live, he also acted in a movie. He played Youngblood "Superfly" Priest in The Return of Superfly. This film was the third and final part of the classic Super Fly movie series. He later returned to One Life to Live in April 2009 for a short time.
In 2017, it was announced that Nathan Purdee would appear in a new film called Killian & the Comeback Kids. He acted alongside his One Life to Live co-star Kassie DePaiva. What makes this film extra special is that it was written and directed by Nathan Purdee's own son, Taylor A. Purdee.
