Nathan W. Collier was born in 1872 and passed away in 1941. He was an academic administrator, which means he was a leader who helped manage and guide schools. He is best known for being the president of two important schools: Florida Baptist Institute and then Florida Normal and Technical Institute. He led these schools for a very long time, starting in 1896 and continuing until 1941.
Early Life and Education
Collier grew up in Augusta, Georgia. He worked hard in school and graduated from Ware High School. After that, he continued his studies at Atlanta University. He was even involved when Atlanta University moved its campus from Jacksonville.
Building a School for the Future
Nathan W. Collier played a huge role in creating the Florida Baptist Institute. He worked with Sarah Ann Blocker to combine two schools, Florida Baptist Institute and Florida Baptist Academy, into one stronger institution. This new school was called Florida Baptist Institute. Collier became its president in 1896. Under his leadership, the school grew and changed its name to Florida Normal and Technical Institute. This institution later became what we know today as Florida Memorial University. He was the president of the school for 45 years!
His Lasting Legacy
Nathan W. Collier's dedication to education left a lasting mark. Several places and honors are named after him and Sarah Ann Blocker, recognizing their important work.

- The main library at Florida Memorial University is called the Nathan W. Collier Library.
