Nathaniel J. McFadden (born August 3, 1946) is an American politician. He served in the Maryland State Senate for many years. From 1995 to 2019, he represented District 45. He also held an important role as the Senate's President Pro Tem from 2007 to 2019.

Early Life and Education
Nathaniel J. McFadden was born on August 3, 1946, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He went to high school at Baltimore City College and graduated in 1964.
He continued his education at Morgan State University. In 1968, he earned a bachelor's degree in geography and history education. Later, in 1972, he received a master's degree in history and social sciences.
A Career in Teaching
Before becoming a politician, Mr. McFadden was a teacher. He taught at Dunbar High School from 1968 to 1975. He also worked as an educator at Lake Clifton-Eastern High School in Baltimore, Maryland, starting in 1989. He helped students through the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) until 1994. Mr. McFadden is married and has three children and five grandchildren.

Mr. McFadden spent many years working in the Maryland State Senate. This is where laws are made for the state of Maryland. He was a leader in the Senate for a long time.
Key Leadership Roles
He was the chairman of the Baltimore City Senate Delegation. This means he led the group of senators from Baltimore City. From 2003 to 2007, he was the Majority Leader. This is a powerful position that helps guide the work of the Senate.
