National Beer Festival facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The National Beer Festival is Argentina's own version of the famous German Oktoberfest. This exciting festival happens every October and has been a tradition since 1963, only missing a year in 2020. Thousands of visitors come to enjoy the fun for two weekends in a row. Today, it is the biggest festival of its kind in Latin America, right after the Oktoberfest of Blumenau in Brazil.

About Villa General Belgrano

The festival takes place in a special town called Villa General Belgrano, located in Córdoba. This town was founded in 1930. It looks a lot like an Alpine village, with charming wooden houses and red roofs. The town also has many traditions from Central Europe. You can find traditional music, dances, crafts, and even languages from that region.

The idea for the festival started in the 1960s. It was brought to the town by the first German immigrants who settled there. They wanted to share their culture and traditions.

Festival Location and Parade

The festival used to be held in Plaza Jose Hernandez. But in 1996, it moved to a special place called the Brewer Park (Parque Cervecero in Spanish). This park was designed just for the festival.

A big part of the festival is a lively procession through the town's streets. You can see colorful carriages, dance groups, and orchestras. People dress in traditional costumes, and there are fun parades. You might even spot special "dog sausages" (a type of frankfurter!).

Each year, a special event takes place at the park. A "Queen of Oktoberfest Argentina" (Reina del Oktoberfest Argentina) is chosen in a fun ceremony.

Over the years, the festival has grown a lot. More and more people come to visit. It has become a very popular event that attracts many tourists.
