The National Transport Museum of Ireland (which in Irish is Iarsmalann Náisiunta Iompair na hÉireann) is a special place where you can see many old vehicles. It is the main project of the Transport Museum Society of Ireland. This museum is located on the beautiful grounds of Howth Castle in Ireland.
The idea for this museum started way back in the 1940s. It was later reorganized in the early 1970s. The museum first opened a display in Castleruddery from 1974 to 1985. Then, in 1986, it moved to its current home in Howth. Today, the museum has a huge collection of more than 180 different vehicles.

Where to Find the Museum
Visiting the Howth Location
The National Transport Museum is found in the Heritage Depot. This depot is part of the Howth Demesne, which is near Howth, Ireland. The museum is set up in old farm buildings. You can get there by using the main gates that lead to Howth Castle.
How the Museum Operates
The museum is run by volunteers who give their time to keep it going. It gets its money from a small entry fee that visitors pay. They also sell posters and accept donations from people who want to support the museum.
Exploring the Vehicle Collection
What You Can See on Display
Out of the more than 180 vehicles the museum owns, about sixty are currently on display in Howth. The oldest items in the collection are from the late 1800s. The newest vehicles were made in 1984.
Types of Vehicles to Discover
The museum's collection includes many different kinds of transport. You can see old buses, lorries, and trucks. There are also fire engines, trams, and tractors. A very special item on display is the restored Hill of Howth No.9 Tram. This tram used to carry people up and down the Hill of Howth.
How the Collection Grew
In the early 2000s, the museum's collection was growing quickly. They were adding about five new vehicles each year. At that time, they had already collected 170 vehicles. The average age of these vehicles was about 46 years old.
Where Other Vehicles Are Kept
While sixty vehicles are shown in Howth, the museum has many more. Some of these can be seen if you arrange it beforehand. The rest of the vehicles are kept at a special storage place. This reserve depot is located at Castleruddery / Donoughmore. It is found between Donard, Stratford-on-Slaney, and the Glen of Imaal in County Wicklow.
