National Velvet is a 1944 movie about horse racing. It stars Elizabeth Taylor and Mickey Rooney. It is based on a 1935 story by Enid Bagnold. The movie won two minor Academy Awards. In 2003, National Velvet was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant."
