Navajo Communications Company, Inc. is a company that helps bring telephone services to the Navajo people in Arizona. It's part of a bigger company called Frontier Communications.
Navajo Communications Company, Inc. makes sure that homes and businesses in the Navajo Nation have phone service. This means people can call their friends, family, and important services.
How Phone Service Started
Telephone service for the Navajo people began a long time ago, in 1928. Back then, the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) started building phone lines. They wanted to connect their own offices and facilities.
Changes Over Time
Over the years, the company providing phone service changed hands many times.
- In 1969, the BIA sold the phone system to a company called Great Southwest Telephone Co.
- Later, in 1981, CP National bought Great Southwest Telephone.
- Then, in 1988, Alltel took over CP National.
- Finally, in 1994, Alltel sold its phone services for the Navajo area to Citizens Communications. This company later changed its name to what it is today: Frontier Communications.
So, Navajo Communications Company, Inc. is now a part of Frontier Communications. It continues to provide important phone services to the Navajo community.
