Nedra Volz (born Nedra Gordonier; June 18, 1908 – January 20, 2003) was a talented American actress. She was famous for playing many different characters on TV shows. You might remember her as Aunt Iola on All in the Family. She also played Adelaide Brubaker on Diff'rent Strokes and Emma Tisdale on The Dukes of Hazzard. Nedra Volz also appeared in movies like Moving Violations and Earth Girls Are Easy.

Nedra Volz's Early Acting Days
Nedra Volz was born in Montrose, Iowa. She started acting when she was just a toddler! Her family had a special traveling show, and she was known as "Baby Nedra." This act continued until she was 11 years old. After that, she was too old to be called "Baby Nedra" anymore.
She tried acting in high school but it didn't work out. So, she decided to try music instead. In the early 1930s, Nedra sang with a group called Cato's Vagabonds. In 1932, she and two other singers performed on the radio in New York. Later, in 1940, she was known as a "blues songstress" in Miami, Florida.
Becoming a TV Star
Nedra Volz became a well-known actress starting in 1975. She often played grandmothers or energetic older ladies. You could see her in many popular TV shows from the 1970s. These included Alice, Maude, and One Day at a Time.
In 1978, Nedra appeared in the very first episode of WKRP in Cincinnati. She also played Aunt Iola, Edith's relative, in All in the Family. By 1980, she was on TV almost every week!
Famous TV Roles
Nedra Volz had several important recurring roles on TV.
- She played Adelaide Brubaker, the kind housekeeper, on Diff'rent Strokes.
- Then, she was Emma Tisdale, a postal worker, on The Dukes of Hazzard.
- From 1982 to 1983, Nedra was the main older lady on Filthy Rich. She played Winona "Mother B" Beck. Her character was always trying to escape from the nursing home!
- Her last regular TV role was as Pearl Sperling. She was a bail-bonds woman who hired Lee Majors' character on The Fall Guy. This was from 1985 until the show ended in 1986.
Nedra also appeared in commercials, including some for Jack in the Box. She continued to be a guest star on shows like Night Court, Coach, and The Commish into the early 1990s. She kept acting even when she was in her eighties!
Movie Appearances
Nedra Volz also acted in movies. In the film Moving Violations, the director, Neil Israel, let her do many of her own stunts. This included being lifted into a window and falling onto the floor. Her very last acting job was in the movie The Great White Hype in 1996.
Later Life and Passing
Nedra Volz passed away on January 20, 2003. She was in Mesa, Arizona. She died from problems related to Alzheimer's disease.
