The Needham House is an old and important house located on Meadow Road in Harrisville, New Hampshire. It's close to a small place called Chesham village. This house was built in 1845 and shows off a cool style called Greek Revival. Because of its history and design, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.
What Makes Needham House Special?
The Needham House stands on the west side of Chesham village in Harrisville. You can find it on the east side of Meadow Road, just north of where it meets Chesham Road.
Design and Look
This house is made of wood and has two and a half stories. It has a pointed roof, called a gabled roof, and its outside walls are covered with wooden boards (clapboards). The front of the house faces east. It looks longer than it is because of an extra part, called an "ell," that sticks out.
The main front door is the most fancy part of the house's Greek Revival style. It has tall, narrow windows on both sides of the door. There is also a special peaked design above the door. Another entrance is found on the "ell" part of the house, covered by a small porch.
A Glimpse into History
John Needham built this house in 1845. It is special in the area because of its unique front door design. Over the years, many important local families have owned the house. One of these families was the Greenwoods, including Prentiss Greenwood. He used to be the postmaster for the village of Pottersville.
