Aoutneil Jacques "Neil" Magny (born August 3, 1987) is an American professional mixed martial artist. He is known for competing in the Welterweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Neil Magny started his professional career in 2010. He became well-known after appearing on The Ultimate Fighter: Team Carwin vs. Team Nelson. He holds the record for the most wins in UFC Welterweight history, with 22 victories.

About Neil Magny

Neil Magny was born and grew up in Brooklyn, New York. His family background includes Haitian and Dominican roots. When he was 12, Magny moved to Illinois. He finished high school there and later went to Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. He earned a degree in Criminal Justice. During his school years, he was active in both wrestling and football. Neil Magny also served in the army and was deployed in Kuwait before leaving the service in 2013.

His Mixed Martial Arts Journey

Neil Magny started his professional MMA career in 2010. His first fight was on August 7, 2010, where he won by submission. He quickly won two more fights, bringing his record to 3 wins and 0 losses. Magny continued to win, reaching a record of 6 wins without any losses. His first career loss happened in July 2011 during a tournament final.

Joining The Ultimate Fighter

After his early fights, Neil Magny tried out for The Ultimate Fighter. This is a reality TV show where fighters compete to earn a contract with the UFC. He won his elimination fight to get into the show's house. Neil was chosen by coach Shane Carwin to be part of his team.

During the show, Magny showed his skills. He won his first fight against Cameron Diffley by decision. He then won his quarterfinal fight against Bristol Marunde. Neil Magny made it to the semifinals but lost to Mike Ricci in the first round.

Fighting in the UFC

Neil Magny officially joined the UFC after The Ultimate Fighter. His first UFC fight was on February 23, 2013, at UFC 157, where he won by decision. After a couple of losses, Magny started a winning streak in 2014. He won five fights that year, which tied a UFC record for most wins in a single calendar year.

Some of his notable wins include:

  • Winning against Kiichi Kunimoto in February 2015, earning him a Performance of the Night bonus.
  • Defeating Lim Hyun-gyu in May 2015, which also earned him a Performance of the Night bonus.
  • Winning a tough fight against Kelvin Gastelum in November 2015, which was named Fight of the Night.
  • Overcoming Héctor Lombard in March 2016, earning another Performance of the Night bonus.

Magny continued to face tough opponents. He won against Johny Hendricks in December 2016 and Carlos Condit in December 2017. In May 2018, he won by technical knockout against Craig White.

After a brief break due to a positive test result in 2019, Magny returned to fighting. He won three fights in a row in 2020 against Li Jingliang, Anthony Rocco Martin, and Robbie Lawler. These wins helped him get closer to the record for most wins in the welterweight division.

In March 2022, Magny defeated Max Griffin by split decision. This win tied him with Georges St-Pierre for the most wins in the UFC welterweight division at that time.

Neil Magny has continued to compete against top fighters. In November 2022, he won against Daniel Rodriguez by submission, earning him another Performance of the Night award. In June 2023, he won a split decision against Philip Rowe.

His most recent fights include a win against Mike Malott in January 2024, where he came back in the third round to win by TKO. He faced Michael Morales in August 2024 and Carlos Prates in November 2024.
