Nelson is a small village located in the state of Nebraska in the United States. It is the main town, also known as the county seat, of Nuckolls County, Nebraska. In 2020, about 456 people lived there. The village was named after C. Nelson Wheeler, who originally owned the land where the town was built.

History of Nelson

Nelson became the official county seat in 1873. This meant it was chosen as the most important town in Nuckolls County. Another nearby town, Superior, tried to become the county seat in 1889, but Nelson kept its position.

The village grew quite a bit in its early days. Around the year 1900, Nelson's population reached its highest point with about 1,000 people living there. Since then, the number of people living in Nelson has slowly gone down over the years.
