Nelson Dewey State Park is a cool place to visit in Wisconsin. It's a special state park that covers about 756-acre (306 ha) of land. This park sits right along the famous Mississippi River, offering amazing views. The land where the park is now used to be part of a large property called Stonefield. This property belonged to Nelson Dewey, who was the very first governor of Wisconsin. The park was officially created in 1935.

If you love camping, Nelson Dewey State Park has a campground ready for you. There are 45 camping spots available. Four of these spots are "walk-in" sites. This means you park your car and then walk a short distance to your campsite. These special walk-in sites are located right along the top of the bluffs, giving you even more amazing views to wake up to!

History of the Park

Nelson Dewey State Park is named after an important person in Wisconsin's past. Nelson Dewey was the first governor of the state. He served from 1848 to 1852. The park land was once part of his large estate, which was known as Stonefield. It's pretty cool that a park is named after the state's first leader!
