Nether Hall is a really big and old house in Doncaster, England. It's so special that it's officially protected as a 'Grade II listed building'. This means it's an important historical place that needs to be kept safe for the future!

A Look Back at Nether Hall's Story
Building a Grand Home
Nether Hall was built a long, long time ago, in the early to mid-1700s. It was designed to be a fancy home for a rich family called the Copleys. They lived nearby in a place called Sprotbrough. Imagine how grand it must have looked when it was first finished!
From School to Soldiers
Over the years, Nether Hall changed its purpose many times. In the 1870s, it became a private school. Later, in the early 1900s, it became the main office for a group of soldiers called the Queen's Own Yorkshire Dragoons. This was a special army unit.
In August 1914, these soldiers gathered at Nether Hall. They were getting ready to go and fight in World War I on the Western Front. After the war ended, the hall was no longer needed by the army.
A Place for Local Government
In 1921, the local council, called Doncaster Rural District Council, bought Nether Hall. They added a new part to the back of the building. This new section was used as a special meeting room for the council.
Later, after a big change in how local governments worked in 1974, Nether Hall was used for the finance department. This department handled all the money matters for the Doncaster Council.
What's Next for Nether Hall?
The finance department moved to a new building in 2013. After that, Nether Hall was sold at an auction in 2014 for £410,000. It was offered for sale again in September 2023. The guide price was £425,000 or more. It will be interesting to see what Nether Hall becomes next!
