Neutral, Kansas facts for kids

Neutral is a small community located in Cherokee County, Kansas, United States. It's what's called an unincorporated community. This means it's a place where people live together, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or a town does. Instead, it's usually managed by the county government.

Where is Neutral Located?

Neutral is found in the southeastern part of Kansas. It's about five miles northwest of a town called Baxter Springs. In the past, it was located along the St. Louis and San Francisco Railway, which was an important train line. A small stream called Brush Creek flows past the northeast side of Neutral. This creek eventually joins the Spring River near another community called Riverton, which is about five miles to the east.

A Glimpse into Neutral's Past

Like many small communities, Neutral has a bit of history. At one time, it had its own post office. A post office is a place where people can send and receive mail, buy stamps, and sometimes even handle other services. Having a post office was often a sign that a community was active and growing. However, Neutral's post office was closed down in the year 1907. This often happened when populations shifted or transportation methods changed, making it less necessary for every small community to have its own post office.
