The New Bay Diner Restaurant is a special old diner located in Springfield, Massachusetts. It's known for its cool, classic look and interesting history. This diner was built a long time ago and is still a popular spot today!

A Diner from the Past
This historic diner was made by the Mountain View Diners Company in Signac, New Jersey. It was built in 1957 and was one of the last diners this company ever made. The diner is connected to a concrete building that holds the kitchen and restrooms. This part was also likely built in 1957.
In 2003, the diner was added to the National Register of Historic Places. At that time, it was one of only six Mountain View diners left in Massachusetts. It was also the only diner still standing in Springfield.
How the Diner Changed Hands
When the diner was first listed in Springfield's business guide in 1964, it was called the New Bay Diner Restaurant. Its owner was Anthony Viamare, who lived in Granby, Massachusetts. Mr. Viamare owned the diner until 1988.
Then, Donald Roy bought the diner. He decided to change its name to the "Route 66 Diner." This is the name it still has today!
What the Diner Looks Like
The diner is built with a strong steel frame. It has seven window sections and rounded corners, giving it a smooth look. It sits on a base made of concrete and brick.
Outside the Diner
The outside of the diner has bright red stripes that go all the way around. The roof is rounded and made of a special rubber material. The doors are made of steel and glass. There are also signs on the roof facing east and west. These signs show the diner's name, "Route 66 Diner," with the word "Diner" lit up in neon lights.
Inside the Diner
When you step inside, you'll see a long counter. Staff can get behind the counter from the middle and the left side. There's a door in the center that leads to the kitchen. The diner has seventeen stools where people can sit at the counter. It also has six cozy booths for groups. Most of the inside looks just like it did when it was first built. Only the countertop has been replaced over the years.
