About New Douglas Park Stadium
New Douglas Park is in the northern part of Hamilton. It is close to residential areas like Burnbank and Whitehill. The stadium is also near Hamilton West railway station. Construction of the stadium finished in 2001. The company that built it, Ballast Nedam, originally wanted to name it Ballast Stadium.
Playing Surface Changes Over Time
The football pitch at New Douglas Park has changed several times.
Artificial Turf for Training
In 2004, the grass pitch was changed to an artificial surface called FieldTurf. This type of surface is very strong. It allowed the club to hold training sessions and youth team matches there. This meant the main playing field was not damaged for important first team games.
Return to Grass Pitch
When Hamilton Academical was promoted to the Scottish Premier League in May 2008, the rules changed. The league required a natural grass pitch. So, the artificial surface had to be replaced with real grass. This change also included installing undersoil heating. The club owner said this cost about £850,000. A small temporary stand was also added in March 2008. This stand had room for 500 people. It helped the stadium meet the league's requirement of 6,000 seats.
New Artificial Surfaces
At the start of the 2013–14 season, Hamilton Academical went back to an artificial pitch. This new surface was made by TigerTurf and cost £400,000 to install. In June 2018, players in the SPFL voted this surface as the worst among 42 stadiums. The club then decided to install an even newer artificial surface. This new Greenfields surface was ready for the 2018–19 season. It cost £750,000 and was the same high quality as the pitch at the SFA performance centre.
Stadium Names Through Sponsorship
Like many sports venues, New Douglas Park has had different names because of sponsorship deals. Companies pay money to have their name on the stadium.
Past Sponsored Names
From 2016 to 2019, the stadium was known by several names. These included SuperSeal Stadium, Hope CBD Stadium, and Fountain of Youth Stadium. From 2022 to 2025, it was called ZLX Stadium. This naming deal with ZLX Business Solutions was worth £108,000.
Current Stadium Name
After the ZLX sponsorship ended in 2025, the stadium was renamed The Hamilton Community Stadium. This is its current official name.
Clyde F.C. Moves In
In April 2022, Clyde F.C. announced they were leaving their old home, Broadwood Stadium. They had been there for 28 years. From the start of the 2022–23 season, Clyde F.C. began sharing New Douglas Park. They planned to find a new permanent home back in Glasgow in the future.
