Changes in School Districts
Over the years, the school districts serving New Gascony have changed a few times. New Gascony was once part of the Altheimer School District.
In 1979, the Altheimer and Sherrill school districts joined together to form the Altheimer-Sherrill district. Later, in 1993, this district became the Altheimer Unified School District. This district operated Altheimer-Sherrill High School.
On July 10, 2006, the Altheimer Unified School District merged into the Dollarway School District. Altheimer-Sherrill High School closed in 2007, and its students began attending Dollarway High School. Altheimer Martin Elementary School also closed in 2013.
Recent School Mergers
In December 2020, the Arkansas State Board of Education decided that the Dollarway School District would merge with the Pine Bluff School District. This merger officially happened on July 1, 2021.
After the merger, the new, larger Pine Bluff School District continued to use all the existing schools from both former districts. This meant that the attendance zones for schools stayed the same for the 2021–2022 school year. All areas that were once part of the Dollarway district became part of the Pine Bluff School District.
However, there was one change for preschool students. All preschool-aged children in the entire Pine Bluff School District, including the former Dollarway area, are now assigned to Forrest Park/Greenville School.
In 2023, the district announced more changes. Dollarway High School will merge into Pine Bluff High School. Also, Robert F. Morehead Middle School will become the only middle school for all students in the Pine Bluff School District.
