New Horizons Book Award facts for kids
The New Horizons Book Award is a special prize for books that started in 2010. It was created by the School Library Service in Dorset County Council, which is in the United Kingdom. This award helps young people find and enjoy great stories by exciting new writers.
The award is for authors who are publishing their very first fiction book for children aged 9 to 13. Kids who go to school in Dorset and are in this age group get to vote for their favorite book to pick the winner!
2010 Awards
For the 2010 award, a list of five amazing books was chosen. This list is called the "shortlist."
- The Great Hamster Massacre by Katie Davies
- The 13 Treasures by Michelle Harrison
- Love, Aubrey by Suzanne LaFleur
- Time Riders by Alex Scarrow
- The Boy in the Dress by David Walliams
These five books were picked from a longer list of 16 titles. The big winner for 2010 was announced in October. It was The Great Hamster Massacre by Katie Davies!
