The community was named after Lexington, Kentucky. A man named James Irwin Nisbet (who lived from 1777 to 1830) was one of the first people to settle here. He was originally from Lexington, Kentucky. He was also the one who drew the first maps and plans for the area, which is called "executing the original survey."
