Discovering NUMU's History

How NUMU Started

NUMU first opened its doors in June 2015. Before that, it was known as The Museums of Los Gatos. This older museum actually had two parts: an art museum and a history museum at Forbes Mill.

A Bigger and Better Museum

When NUMU opened, it was much larger than the old museum. It had three times more space for showing off art and historical items! This extra room helps NUMU be a great place for everyone, no matter their age. It offers new ways to look at the history, art, and cool inventions from the San Francisco Bay Area. The Los Gatos Museum Association, which helps run the museum, celebrated its 50th birthday in 2015.

The Big Change

Lisa Coscino, the Executive Director, helped lead the big changes for NUMU. She helped give the museum a new name and a fresh look. She also helped with a similar change for the Museum of Monterey in 2011. NUMU now includes all the collections from the old Art Museum of Los Gatos and the History Museum at Forbes Mill. Both of these museums were first started in 1965.

Exploring Exhibitions

NUMU has two floors filled with gallery spaces. These galleries host about 10 different art and history shows each year. This means there's always something new and interesting to see! The museum building is 6,000 square feet and is located at 106 E. Main Street in the Los Gatos Civic Center.

Fun Programs and Workshops

NUMU offers many exciting ways to learn and create. You can join programs in person or online. They have workshops, special programs for young people, classes, and talks with artists.

All the programs are inspired by the art and history currently on display in the museum.
