New Salem is a small, quiet place in Fairfield County, Ohio. It's known as an unincorporated community, which means it's a town that doesn't have its own local government like a city or village does. Instead, it's usually managed by the county.

A Look Back at New Salem's History

New Salem was officially planned and laid out in 1832. This process is called "platting," which means someone drew up a map showing where streets, lots, and public areas would be.

Right around the same time, in 1832, a post office was opened in New Salem. This was a really important place for people to send and receive letters and packages. The post office served the community for a long time, staying open until 1960.
