How Newport Became Part of Bellevue
Cities sometimes grow by adding nearby areas. This process is called "annexation." It means a smaller area officially becomes part of a larger city.
- Growing West: A big part of Newport that is west of Interstate 405 joined Bellevue in 1957. This was an important step in making Bellevue the city it is today.
- Growing East: Later on, in 1993, most of the Newport area east of Interstate 405 also became part of Bellevue. This helped the city expand even more and include more communities.
