Newport, Missouri facts for kids
Newport is a small, unincorporated community located in Barton County, in the U.S. state of United States. An "unincorporated community" means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's governed by the county.
The Story of Newport
Newport was officially planned and marked out on maps in 1874. Before it was called Newport, it was known by another name: Horse Creek.
A post office was first opened in this area in 1858. It was initially named the Horse Creek post office. Later, in 1878, the name of the post office was changed to Newport. This post office served the local community for many years before it eventually closed its doors in 1915.
