News Gothic is a special design for letters, numbers, and symbols, also known as a typeface. It was created in 1908 by a talented designer named Morris Fuller Benton. His company, American Type Founders, used this design. News Gothic is a bit like another font called Franklin Gothic, but it looks much lighter and airier.

What is News Gothic?

News Gothic is a sans-serif font. This means its letters do not have the small decorative lines, called "serifs," at the ends of their strokes. Think of it like letters without little "feet."

A Classic Style

Like many other fonts made by Morris Fuller Benton, News Gothic belongs to a style called "grotesque." This was a popular type of sans-serif font back then. These fonts often looked simple and strong.

How News Gothic Looks

The letters in News Gothic are quite compact, meaning they don't take up too much space. Also, the parts of letters that hang below the main line, like the tails of a g or a y (these are called descenders), are not very long.

What makes News Gothic stand out from some other sans-serif fonts is how light and open its letters appear. This gives it a clean and modern feel, which was quite new for its time.
