About Niall Buggy
His Early Life
Niall Buggy was born in Dublin, Ireland, on October 3, 1948. His parents loved going to the Theatre Royal every Friday night. When Niall was 11, he was so excited about acting that he ran away from home to visit the theatre.
He told them he was there for an audition. There were no auditions that day, so he was asked to come back the next day. Niall went home, planning to return. But when he got there, a search party was looking for him around his home in Drumcondra! When he was 16, Niall started studying acting at the Abbey Theatre School in Dublin.
On Stage
Niall Buggy has had a very successful career in theatre. In 1995, he won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Comedy Performance for his role in the play Dead Funny. This award is one of the most important awards for theatre in the United Kingdom.
In 2010, he acted alongside the famous actress Brenda Blethyn in a play called Haunted. This play was written by Edna O'Brien. The play toured for six dates in the spring and then had a special run in London's West End, which is a very famous theatre district.
