Nickelville was a ghost town in Collin County, Texas. A ghost town is a place where most or all people have left, leaving behind empty buildings.
The Story of Nickelville
Nickelville began in the early 1870s. It was reportedly named after the very first store in the area.
A New Path: The Railroad Arrives
In 1886, something big happened. The Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway built train tracks. These tracks were about half a mile north of where Nickelville first stood.
Moving Day for a Town
Because of the new railroad, the businesses in Nickelville decided to move. They wanted to be closer to the train tracks. This move happened the very next year. The new place where they settled down became known as Wylie. So, Nickelville essentially moved and changed its name!
