Club Career
Starting in Denmark
Born in Copenhagen, Jensen began his football journey at a club called Boldklubben 1893 (B.93). In 1992, he moved to Lyngby Boldklub and started playing in the Danish Superliga, Denmark's top football league. He made his debut for Lyngby in April 1993 and went on to play 92 games for the club, scoring five goals.
Move to the Netherlands
In 1996, Jensen was sold to the Dutch team PSV Eindhoven. He was one of three players from Lyngby to join PSV at that time. In his first season, he played only a few games but was part of the team that won the Dutch league championship. His time at PSV was difficult because of injuries, and he was often a backup for the main left-back, Arthur Numan.
Return to Copenhagen
In March 1998, Jensen returned to his home city to play for F.C. Copenhagen (FCK). He quickly became a key player for the team. He and his teammate Thomas Rytter were known for being the best pair of wingbacks in the league. During his nearly five years at FCK, he helped the team win the Danish Superliga championship in 2001.
Playing in England
In January 2002, Jensen's success earned him a move to England to play for Manchester City. He helped the team get promoted to the FA Premier League, England's top division. The next season, he played in 33 of the team's 38 games, and Manchester City finished in ninth place. One of his most memorable moments was scoring a fantastic volley to win a game against Leeds United.
After his time at Manchester City, Jensen moved to another English club, Fulham, in July 2005. He played regularly in his first season but later found it hard to get into the starting lineup.
Time in Germany
In July 2003, Jensen was bought by the German team Borussia Dortmund. He had a good start but eventually became a substitute for the team's main left-back, Dedê. In his two seasons with the club, he played 43 games in Germany's top league, the Bundesliga.
Final Years and Retirement
In January 2007, Jensen returned to F.C. Copenhagen for a second time. He immediately helped the team win the 2006–07 Superliga championship. In the following seasons, he played less often as he became a backup for a younger player.
After not playing any league games in the first half of the 2009 season, Jensen decided to retire from playing football in October 2009. He chose to start a new career as a football agent, helping other players with their careers.
International Career
Jensen played for Denmark's youth national teams from a young age. He made his first appearance for the under-17 team in 1990. In 1995, his talent was recognized when he was named the Danish Under-21 Player of the Year.
He made his debut for the senior Denmark national team in August 1998. He became a regular player under coach Morten Olsen and was chosen for the 2002 FIFA World Cup squad. During the tournament, he became Denmark's main left-back.
Jensen also played for Denmark at the 2004 European Championship. He played in the first three games before the team was eliminated. His last game for the national team was in March 2008. In total, he played 62 games for his country.
