The Nicola Valley Museum and Archives is a special place in Merritt, British Columbia. It helps us learn about the history of the Nicola Valley. This museum and archives is run by a group called the Nicola Valley Museum and Archives Association. This group started on May 26, 1976. They worked hard to create a place to keep local history safe.
At first, the association met in different places. They even had two temporary museums. Finally, in 1980 and 1981, they moved into their current building. This building is in downtown Merritt at 1675 Tutill Court. It is a shared building, also used by a Senior Citizens Recreation Centre.

Historical Records
The archives part of the museum has lots of historical information. You can find old local newspapers there. Some of these newspapers go all the way back to the early 1900s. There are also more than 4,000 historical photographs. These pictures show what life was like long ago.
Publications
The association that runs the museum also publishes a "Historical Quarterly." This is a magazine about local history. They have been publishing it since December 1977. Members of the association also helped write a book. This book is called "Merritt & the Nicola Valley: An Illustrated History". It tells the story of Merritt and the Nicola Valley with pictures.
