Nicoll Highway MRT Station is a train station in Singapore. It is part of the Circle Line, which is one of Singapore's important train lines. This station has a unique story because its original plans had to be changed after a big event happened nearby in 2004.

What is an MRT Station?

An MRT station is a stop on Singapore's Mass Rapid Transit system. This system is a network of trains that helps millions of people travel across the island every day. It's a fast and easy way to get around the city. The Circle Line, where Nicoll Highway Station is located, connects many different parts of Singapore in a big loop.

The Nicoll Highway Collapse

The Nicoll Highway MRT Station was originally planned to be built in a different spot. However, on 17 April 2004, a serious accident happened during the construction of the tunnels for the Circle Line. A part of the Nicoll Highway, a major road, collapsed. This event was a big challenge for the engineers and builders.

Because of the collapse, the plans for the train line and the station had to be completely changed. The engineers decided to move the station and realign the tunnels to a safer location. This shows how important safety is in big construction projects.

Building the Station

After the collapse, the new Nicoll Highway MRT Station was built in its current location. It was designed to be very safe and modern. The station finally opened on 17 April 2010, exactly six years after the collapse. It serves the areas around Nicoll Highway, including offices and residential buildings.

The station is known for its interesting architecture and design. It has platforms that are deep underground, and it uses special doors called platform screen doors to keep passengers safe from the trains.
