Biography
Early Life and a Big Idea
Nikola Bizumić was born in 1823 in a place called Neradin, which was part of the Austrian Empire back then. He grew up in his hometown and worked as a farmer, raising pigs. But Nikola had bigger dreams!
He decided to learn how to be a barber in a town called Irig. While working, he noticed that cutting hair took a lot of time and effort. He started thinking about a machine that could make haircuts faster and easier. This was his big idea!
Nikola's boss didn't understand how important his invention could be. So, Nikola left that job and moved to Ruma. There, he met another barber named Petar Javonovic and became his helper.
Moving to London and Success
In 1855, Nikola Bizumić left the Austrian Empire and traveled all the way to London, England. He was determined to make his invention a reality. In London, he found people who believed in his idea and gave him money to start making his hair clippers.
Soon, his hand-held hair clippers were being made. They quickly became very popular! Barbers all over Europe started using them. By 1865, Bizumić's invention was used in almost every barbershop across the continent.
Later, electric hair clippers were invented, and the use of manual hand clippers slowly became less common. Nikola Bizumić became known in the United Kingdom by the name John Smith. He passed away in 1906, leaving behind a very successful business.
