Nikolai Demidenko is a famous classical pianist. He was born in Russia on July 1, 1955. He is known for his amazing piano playing and for bringing classical music to many people around the world.

Early Life and Training

Nikolai Demidenko started his musical journey at a young age. He studied at the Gnessin State Musical College for 12 years. His teacher there was Anna Kantor. Later, he continued his studies at the Moscow Conservatory with Dmitri Bashkirov. Demidenko thought Bashkirov was an incredible teacher.

Even as a student, Nikolai was very talented. He preferred to learn challenging pieces like Frédéric Chopin's Etudes instead of just practicing scales. His teacher, Anna Kantor, understood this and let him focus on the music he loved.

Competitions and Moving to the UK

Nikolai Demidenko showed his talent in big competitions. He was a finalist in the Montreal International Piano Competition in 1976. He also reached the finals of the International Tchaikovsky Competition in 1978. These competitions are very important for young musicians.

In 1985, he performed in London for the first time. This was a big step in his career. Since 1990, he has lived in the United Kingdom. He even became a British citizen in 1995. Nikolai Demidenko has performed in many famous concert halls. He gave a series of six concerts at the Wigmore Hall in London in 1993. These concerts showed how piano music changed over 250 years.

He has made almost 40 music CDs. Many of his recordings are with a company called Hyperion Records. These include pieces by Prokofiev and Medtner. He also recorded music with another pianist, Dmitri Alexeev.
