The area known as Ninemile has a simple but interesting history. In 1880, a post office was opened there, which was important for sending and receiving mail. It was first called "Nine Mile". Later, in 1895, its name was officially changed to "Ninemile". The post office stayed open for a few more years before closing in 1905.

The community gets its name from a nearby stream called Ninemile Creek. It's common for small towns and communities to be named after local natural features like rivers or creeks.
