Noah Hawley (born in 1967) is an American writer, director, and producer. He also writes books and sings. He is famous for creating and writing the TV shows Fargo (starting in 2014) and Legion (2017–2019) for the FX channel.

He also worked on other TV series like Bones (2005–2008) and The Unusuals (2009). Hawley wrote the movie The Alibi (2006). He also wrote and directed Lucy in the Sky (2019). He has written six novels. Noah Hawley also sings and has contributed to the soundtracks of his shows Fargo and Legion. He will write and direct a new FX series called Alien: Earth, based on the famous film franchise. It is expected to come out in 2025.

Early Life and Education

Noah Hawley was born and grew up in New York City. His mother, Louise Armstrong, was a writer and an activist. His grandmother was a playwright, someone who writes plays. His father, Tom Hawley, was a businessman. Noah has a twin brother named Alexi. Alexi is also a writer for TV shows.

Hawley went to Sarah Lawrence College. He studied political science and graduated in 1989. After college, he worked for the Legal Aid Society in New York City. This group helps people with legal problems, especially those involving child abuse. Later, he moved to San Francisco. There, he worked with computers at law firms and helped lawyers with their cases.

Hawley was a writer and producer for the first three seasons of the TV show Bones. This show aired from 2005 to 2008. He also created and was a main producer for The Unusuals (2009) and My Generation (2010).

Noah Hawley is the creator, main writer, and executive producer of the FX show Fargo. This show started in 2014 and is still going on. It is based on a 1996 movie with the same name by the Coen brothers. In 2014, Fargo won a big award called the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Miniseries. It also received many other nominations. Overall, Fargo has been nominated for 113 awards and has won 32 of them.

In 2015, Hawley made a bigger deal with FX to produce more shows. He wrote and was a main producer for Legion. This show aired from 2017 to 2019. It was based on a Marvel comic book character.

Hawley will also create, write, direct, and produce a new series called Alien: Earth. This show is based on the famous film franchise. It is expected to be shown on FX in 2025.

In 2014, Hawley signed a deal with Universal Pictures. He was going to write a movie for their "Dark Universe" series. Sony Pictures also bought the rights to his novel Before the Fall. Hawley will write the movie script for it. In 2016, his company, 26 Keys, made a deal with 20th Century Fox to make movies.

In 2017, Hawley announced he was writing and directing a movie about Doctor Doom. This is a character from Marvel Comics. However, this project was stopped after Disney bought 21st Century Fox.

In 2019, he directed his first full-length movie, Lucy in the Sky. This drama movie starred Natalie Portman as an astronaut.

In 2019, it was also announced that Hawley would write and direct the fourth movie in the new Star Trek series. He finished the script in 2020. This movie would have featured a new crew but still be in the same Star Trek universe. However, the project was cancelled in late 2020.

Personal Life

Noah Hawley is married to Kyle Hawley. They have two children together. The family lives in both Los Angeles and Austin, Texas. His brother, Alexi Hawley, is also a writer and producer in the entertainment industry.
