Nobuo Fujishima (born April 8, 1950) is a former Japanese football player and manager. He was a talented midfielder who played for the Japan national team. He also coached football teams after he stopped playing.
Nobuo Fujishima's Club Career
Nobuo Fujishima was born in Akita, Japan, on April 8, 1950. After finishing high school, he joined a football club called Nippon Kokan in 1969. This club was very successful during his time there. They won the 1980 JSL Cup in 1980. They also won the 1981 Emperor's Cup in 1981.
Fujishima played for Nippon Kokan until 1986, when he retired as a player. He was recognized as one of the best players in the Japan Soccer League. He was chosen for the "Best Eleven" team four times. This means he was one of the top 11 players in the league in 1971, 1976, 1977, and 1978.
Playing for the Japan National Team
In September 1971, Nobuo Fujishima was chosen to play for the Japan national team. His first game was on September 29, 1971, against Chinese Taipei. This game was part of the qualification matches for the 1972 Summer Olympics.
He also represented Japan in big international tournaments. He played in the 1974 Asian Games and the 1978 Asian Games. These are major sports events for countries in Asia. From 1978, he even served as the captain of the national team. He played a total of 65 games for Japan and scored seven goals before he stopped playing for the national team in 1979.
Coaching Career
After he finished playing football, Fujishima started a new career as a coach. He began coaching at his former club, Nippon Kokan.
In 1999, he became the coach for a club called YKK. This team played in the Japanese Regional Leagues, which are lower divisions of Japanese football. Under his coaching, YKK did very well. In 2001, he helped the club get promoted to the Japan Football League. This meant they moved up to a higher level of competition. He coached YKK until 2002.
