Nolo is a small, unincorporated community located in Indiana County, in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. An unincorporated community means it's a place with a shared identity, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's part of a larger county or township.

The Story of Nolo

Nolo has a unique story behind its name! The community was officially recognized when a post office opened there in 1863. This post office served the area for many years, helping people send and receive letters, until it closed in 1923.

Local stories say that Nolo got its name because of its location. The area where the community sits is quite high up, and there was "no low ground" nearby. This interesting fact led to the name "Nolo," which sounds a bit like "no low."
