Nombulelo Lilian Hermans (born January 1, 1970 – died January 18, 2021) was an important South African politician. She was a member of the African National Congress, a major political party in South Africa. From 2019 until her death, she served in the National Assembly of South Africa, which is like the country's parliament.

Nombulelo Hermans' Political Journey

Nombulelo Hermans started her political journey early. In 1985, she joined the Colesberg Youth Organisation. This group helped young people get involved in their community.

After apartheid ended, she helped create a local branch of the African National Congress (ANC) in Colesberg. Apartheid was a system of unfair rules that separated people based on their race. The ANC worked to end these rules.

Leadership Roles in the ANC

Nombulelo became a leader within the ANC. In 2002, she was chosen for the ANC's Pixley ka Seme regional committee. This committee helps make decisions for a specific area. She also served on the regional working committee.

Later, she became the regional treasurer for the ANC. This meant she managed the money for the region. After that, she became the regional deputy chairperson. She also worked on the ANC's provincial (state-level) committees in the Northern Cape.

Local Government Work

Nombulelo Hermans also served in local government. She was the Executive Mayor of the Umsobomvu Local Municipality for two terms. A municipality is like a local city or town government. Colesberg is the main town in this municipality.

She also served as the speaker for the Pixley ka Seme District Municipality. This role involves leading meetings and making sure rules are followed. She was also the second deputy chairperson of the South African Local Government Association. This group helps local governments across the country work together.
