Nooseneck River facts for kids
The Nooseneck River is a small river in the state of Rhode Island in the United States. It flows for about 5.5 miles (8.9 kilometers). Along its path, you can find three dams.
Where the River Flows
The Nooseneck River starts on the south side of Hammitt Hill in a town called Coventry. From there, it flows towards the southeast. It travels through another town, West Greenwich. In West Greenwich, the Nooseneck River meets up with the Congdon River. When these two rivers join, they form a larger river called the Big River.
Bridges and Crossings
A "crossing" is a place where a road or path goes over the river. Here are the main crossings over the Nooseneck River, starting from where it begins and moving downstream:
- In West Greenwich, you can find crossings at:
- Sharpe Street
- Fry Pond Road
- Interstate 95 (a major highway)
- Nooseneck Hill Road, which is also known as Rhode Island Route 3
River Branches
A "tributary" is a smaller stream or river that flows into a larger river. The Nooseneck River has one named tributary called Raccoon Brook. It also has many other smaller streams that flow into it, but these do not have specific names.
