Norah (Arabic: نورة) is a Saudi film from 2023. It was written, directed, and produced by Tawfik Alzaidi. The main actors are Yagoub Alfarhan, Maria Bahrawi, and Abdullah Alsadhan. This movie is special because it's the first Saudi film ever made entirely in Al Ula, a beautiful place in Saudi Arabia.
The film was first shown at the Red Sea International Film Festival in December 2023. It also made history by being the first Saudi film picked for the famous Cannes Film Festival in France. It was shown there in May 2024 as part of a special section called Un Certain Regard. The movie got help from the Saudi Ministry of Culture and the Red Sea International Film Festival to be made.
The Story of Norah
The story is about two main characters: Nader and Norah. Nader used to be an artist, but he stopped making art. Instead, he moved to a quiet village in western Saudi Arabia to teach children.
Norah lives in the same village with her younger brother, Nayef. Their parents passed away when Norah was young, so she has learned to be very independent. The movie shows how Nader and Norah meet and how their lives change as they discover art together.
