Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Normal is a small, quiet place in Grant County, Indiana, in the United States. It is known as an "unincorporated community." This means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government. Instead, it's part of the larger county.

History of Normal

The story of Normal began a long time ago, in 1852. At that time, the first post office opened there. A post office is a place where people can send and receive letters and packages. This first post office was called Slash.

Later, in 1880, the post office's name was changed from Slash to Normal. It kept helping people send and receive mail for many years. However, in 1902, the post office in Normal closed down. Even though the post office is gone, the name Normal still reminds us of this small community's past.
