Norman Noel Quijano González (born 2 November 1946) is a Salvadoran politician. He served as the Mayor of San Salvador, the capital city of El Salvador, from 2009 to 2015. He was a member of the Nationalist Republican Alliance political party.
Later, he became the President of the Legislative Assembly of El Salvador. This is like being the leader of the country's main law-making group. He held this important role from May 2018 to November 2019.

Early Life and Education
Norman Quijano was born on 2 November 1946, in a city called Santa Ana, El Salvador. He went to high school at the National Institute General Francisco Menéndez.
After high school, he studied at the University of El Salvador. In 1977, he earned a degree as a doctor of dental surgery. This means he trained to be a dentist.
Starting a Political Career
Norman Quijano began his journey in politics in 1989. He worked for the city government of San Salvador as the Manager of Social Action. This job involved helping with community programs and services for people in the city. He held this position until 1994.
From 1994 onwards, he was elected to serve in the Legislative Assembly of El Salvador for five terms in a row. The Legislative Assembly is where laws are made for the country. He also served as the secretary of the Assembly's Board from 2006 to 2009.
Becoming Mayor of San Salvador
In 2008, Norman Quijano was chosen by his party, the Nationalist Republican Alliance, to run for mayor of San Salvador. He won the election on 18 January 2009. He officially started his job as mayor on 1 May of the same year.
As mayor, he was in charge of running the city. This included managing city services and making decisions for the people living there.
Running for President
In 2012, Norman Quijano was selected to be his party's candidate for president of El Salvador. This was for the elections that would happen in 2014.
To focus on his presidential campaign, he resigned from his position as mayor on 15 August 2013. In the first round of the election, he came in second place. He then went to a second round of voting, but he narrowly lost the election. After the election, he returned to his role as mayor of San Salvador.
