Norman William Paramor (born May 15, 1914 – died September 9, 1979), known as Norrie Paramor, was a talented British musician. He was a record producer, composer, arranger, pianist, and conductor.

Norrie Paramor is most famous for his work with the popular singer Cliff Richard and the band The Shadows. He helped guide their early careers. He also produced and arranged many of their songs from the late 1950s to the early 1970s. He created music for albums, stage shows, and movies.

Music Producer

When Norrie Paramor started working in music in 1952, he became a "Recording Director" for EMI's Columbia Records. This job was very much like what we call a "record producer" today. A producer helps artists make their music sound great. They guide the recording process.

Besides Cliff Richard and The Shadows, Norrie Paramor produced records for many other famous artists. These included Ruby Murray, Helen Shapiro, and Frank Ifield. He also worked with Michael Holliday and Ricky Valance.

Norrie Paramor and George Martin (who worked for another EMI label) held a record for a long time. They produced the most number one hit songs in the UK. This shows how successful Norrie Paramor was in his career. In the late 1960s, he left EMI to start his own music company.

Composer and Conductor

In 1955, Norrie Paramor started his own group, the Norman Paramor & His Orchestra. In 1956, they released a very popular album called In London in Love. This album featured the singer Patricia Clarke. This orchestral sound became his special style. He used it on many other albums like Autumn and Moods.

Norrie Paramor also wrote music for many films. Some of these movies include The Young Ones (1961) and The Fast Lady (1963). He also helped write the hit song "Let's Talk About Love" for Helen Shapiro in 1962.

In 1968, Norrie Paramor was the musical director for the Eurovision Song Contest. This big music event was held in London that year. He also conducted the UK's song, "Congratulations", sung by Cliff Richard.

In 1970, he became the main conductor for the BBC Midland Radio Orchestra. He held this important job until he passed away. In 1977, he worked with The Shadows one last time on a song called "Return to the Alamo".

Death

Norrie Paramor passed away on September 9, 1979. He was 65 years old. His death came shortly after Cliff Richard had a number one hit song again. That song was "We Don't Talk Anymore". Norrie Paramor and Cliff Richard had worked together for many years, from 1958 to 1972.
