TV Station History
A TV Station's Old Home
A TV station called WPTZ (channel 5) used to be licensed to North Pole. This happened in 1954. Being "licensed" means the station's official home was North Pole.
The station's studios were in Plattsburgh. But its old broadcast tower was on a mountaintop near North Pole. This tower sent TV signals across the region.
Moving the License
Over time, North Pole became even smaller. In 2011, the TV station asked to change its official home. The government approved this request. WPTZ's license officially moved to Plattsburgh. Even though the tower moved, the station's name was still linked to North Pole for many years.
